(Petty) was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home, and was subsequently taken to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, where he ‘had no brain activity.’

The Electronic Bow for Guitar

This is a super early endorsement for Mike Campbell. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ self-titled debut was released less than a year before this ad ran in Guitar Player, October 1977. The EBow was nothing new, however, as it was invented by Greg Heet in 1969. is featuring a series of fan club-exclusive videos highlighting guitarist Mike Campbell’s impressive array of instruments. You can currently get a preview of  the videos, which were produced by Justin Kreutzman, son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzman, at The Huffington Post. As they quote Campbell:

I sat with a crew and went through my collection, playing and discussing the guitars as we went. The resulting video series answers many questions about the instruments. The stories behind the acquisitions, demonstrations of their tones, and parts they played on recordings with my band over the many albums we have put out.
