Bill Frisell talks creative process, playing vocal melodies and Big Sur

Popdose has published an interview conducted with the great Bill Frisell just prior to the release of his latest album, Big Sur. Interviewer Jeff Giles and the guitarist discuss the creation of that new release, how Frisell composes music in general, and how he interprets vocal melodies on guitar:

I don’t always know the words to the songs I cover, but they can really affect the way you think about it. Or sometimes, in my head I’m hearing the sound of a singer singing the song — like if I do “A Change Is Gonna Come,” I’m hearing Sam Cooke’s voice in my head. What comes out is just my own sort of shadow of what I hear.
