Johnny Marr talks Smiths

Johnny Marr probably can’t escape talking about his former band, but in this instance he’s discussing the Smiths’ discography, hot on the heels of its Rhino Records remasters. Speaking to Spin, the guitarist breaks down the group’s four iconic studio albums. He says this about crafting The Queen is Dead:

I realized that we were being talked about in terms of the greats. And I distinctly remember thinking that the way to be great isn’t to try and copy what the greats have already done, but to try your best to do your own thing.
