Soundgarden are about to embark on a tour revolving around the Big Day Out, Australia’s mobile music festival. For nearly a year the band has been working on new material amidst other commitments. Guitarist Kim Thayil described to Mixdown the process of crafting new songs while reviving the old:
(I)t’s very natural for us to kind of improvise and jam and come up with ideas. So while we’re working on “Spoonman” or “Limo Wreck” or “4th of July,” we’d throw up some other riff and someone else will respond.
