The practice of listing and ranking guitarists is, of course, a favorite topic around Pointy Guitar. Now there’s an entire book dedicated to great players who may have escaped the Clapton- and Hendrix-worshiping masses. A current Sign On San Diego article features Mike Keneally and Jennifer Batten, two artists with SD ties who have achieved notoriety in the guitar world. The piece summarizes the book as such:

Pubished by Backbeat Books and compiled from interviews in Guitar Player magazine, “Guitar Player Presents 50 Unsung Heroes of the Guitar” includes at least a few six-string aces who achieved major fame, such as Free’s Paul Kossoff, Deep Purple’s Tommy Bolin and Chicago Transit Authority’s terry Kath (all now sadly deceased).
