Blues great Hubert Sumlin has died of heart failure, aged 80. The legendary Howlin’ Wolf collaborator was still active and in the musical consciousness, having just been named to Rolling Stone’s list of top 100 all time guitarists. Dave Hoekstra of the Chicago Sun-Times’ Beacon News described the guitarist’s recent history of illness:

Mr. Sumlin had a lung removed in 2004 and last year appeared at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival with his oxygen tank.
