AD: Jack Starr for Conklin Guitars

The most famous guitar company out of Lebanon, MO.

Here’s another gem from Guitar for the Practicing Musician, October 1988. Jack Starr first gained notoriety in the band Virgin Steele—any of you obsessive ’80s metalheads remember them? I was surprised to learn, though, that the band whose collection constitutes the largest portion of his discography is the herein cited Burning Starr. At least in ’88 Starr shared guitar duties with Mike Tirelli (inset).

Conkin Guitars, meanwhile, are still in business and have a ton of endorsers including Rusty Cooley and Victor Wooten.
