Paul Clark of Kansas City-based Paul’s Guitar Shop has begun posting some of his repair trials and tribulations, including those with his own gear. But what could go wrong with an off-the-rack USA Gibson SG? Paul sums it up:
I purchased this guitar from a big box store that shall not be named, mainly because I believe them to be owned by the devil, but I digress. (I)n the middle of a rehearsal, the neck pickup cut out on me. Just quit working. Here’s what I found when I opened it up.
A tale of burnt insulation, bare wires and sketchy solder joints follows. Go figure. At least he knows how to fix that stuff. The moral? Get your gear thoroughly checked out to save some hassle and money.
