Over 350 posts on Pointy Guitar and not one devoted expressly to Joey Tafolla? What a farce! But seriously, when shred was all the rage, Tafolla was a force to be reckoned with. After a number of years in Jag Panzer, he released his solo debut, Out of the Sun, in 1987.
Did it have cred? Consider: It was on Shrapnel Records, was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA, was produced by Tony MacAlpine (who also played keyboards), featured guest solos by Paul Gilbert, and touted executive producer Mike Varney. If you were a metal guitar geek in the late ’80s, this equates to pure bred.
