No, we’re not talking about “Maggot Brain.” Austin guitarist David Didonato is endeavoring to break the Guinness world record for longest guitar solo. The time he has to exceed is 24 hours, 18 minutes. As of this writing he’s been “soloing” for over 17 hours and is currently playing an orange solid body guitar, possibly an Ibanez.

Steve Vai is making a run for the record book. The renowned guitarist, in conjunction with his alma mater Berklee College of Music, is attempting to conduct the world’s largest online guitar lesson. Not sure what the previous record is, but Vai will shoot for the Guinness World Record™ on March 3, 2011. From the event’s home page:
